The Gävle Education Department is responsible for preschool, primary school, secondary school, and adapted school. We work to ensure that all children and students are challenged and succeed in their education. With us, you will help develop the best possible conditions for learning. Polhem School is Gävle's largest secondary school with approximately 1600 students. At Polhem School, there are 10 national programs, including one preparatory program, nine vocational programs, and adapted secondary school. Polhem School has well-developed working teams and extensive quality work aimed at increasing students' goal fulfillment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a vocational teacher in the adapted secondary school, you will work with teaching, have class responsibility, and be responsible for mapping, planning, implementing, and evaluating lessons within a specific vocational orientation, trade, and service. The work is carried out according to established goals and guidelines. Your tasks include working with your colleagues to create a good, enjoyable, and varied school day with the students' best interests in focus. In the adapted secondary school, we work to create a good environment so that all students feel safe and eager to attend school. We strengthen the student's desire to learn and their trust in their own abilities by tailoring the teaching to each individual student's conditions. Education in adapted school provides students with important knowledge and values, contributes to personal development and social community, and creates a good foundation for active participation in society.

We work to develop the quality of teaching by being a learning organization for educational development. Teaching in sales and logistics, marketing, product knowledge, goods management, as well as customer service and interaction will be part of your tasks. You challenge and support students so that they achieve good study results. The work is carried out in collaboration with student health, guardians, and other actors outside the school.

Furthermore, as a vocational teacher in the adapted secondary school, you will guide students during their internships at external workplaces. We prepare students for working life; it is a vocational education with good collaboration with employers, the Public Employment Service, etc.

As a final candidate, you must be able to present a criminal record from the police for work in schools or preschools. This should not be attached to your application.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with experience in trade and service and familiarity with sales, logistics, marketing, and customer service. Education in the trade and service program is also required. You must be able to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing. Experience working in adapted schools is an advantage for the position. We place great importance on experience working with students who have intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, and neuropsychiatric disorders. Furthermore, knowledge of and experience with digital tools and familiarity with the curriculum for adapted secondary schools is important. A degree from a vocational teacher program is advantageous but not required.

To succeed as a vocational teacher in the adapted secondary school, you must have the ability to work with other people. You listen, show empathy, and respect towards students. You have the ability to lead and motivate students and help them feel comfortable and well in school. You are also good at creating an open dialogue and adapting your language to different situations. Furthermore, you have a good ability to make students feel a sense of belonging and inclusion.

As a person, you instill trust and create confidence and have the ability to spread calm and stability around you. You are structured and plan your work well in the classroom, and you have an unpretentious attitude in your collaboration with colleagues, students, guardians, and other actors. You adapt to different situations and have the ability to change your perspective and approach. You see opportunities in changes.
